Tension
Tension is used in Shibari to refer to how tightly a wrap sits around the body. To maintain safety particularly around sensitive areas it is recommended to ensure that rope is loose enough to fit at least two fingers to fit under any wrap.

Tejou Shibari 手錠縛り
'tied handcuffs' This is used to refer to the hands being tied together.

Tekubi 手首
'wrist'. This word is made up from the kanji for hand, and the kanki for neck - so a literal translation would be 'hand neck'.

Tengu Shibari 天狗縛り
This refers to a tie in which the arms are bound with a rope that goes behind the hand to form the shape in the picture shown above. The name 天狗, Tengu comes from the legendary creatures in Japanese folklore, often depicted as supernatural beings or deities with both human and bird-like characteristics. They are commonly associated with mountains and forests, as well as with the esoteric practices of the yamabushi (mountain ascetic monks). Over time, tengu have taken on various roles in Japanese mythology, ranging from fearsome demons to wise protectors.

Teppō Shibari 鉄砲縛り
'Rifle tie'. This tie is named after the apperance of someone with a riffle slung over their shoulder. Some versions of the tie are suitable for suspension (Teppozuri 鉄砲吊り)

Tokowaza Shibari 床技 縛り
'floor tying technique'. This refers to the techniques involved with tying someone who is sitting or laying, and can be used to refer to any sitting or laying tie.

Tomemusubi 止め結び
'stop knot' or 'final knot', a name given to the use of this knot as a stopper knot at the end of ropes. In English this is called an overhand knot . Used in Shibari to secure a new rope onto a rope pattern, as a stopper knot, and sometimes used in the place of a no-dome.

Torinawajutsu 捕縄術
An alternative name for Hojitsu.The word combines "torina" (to capture or restrain) and "wajutsu" (the art of rope). This practice is closely related to hojōjutsu (捕縄術), which focuses on capturing and restraining suspects.


Tsuri 吊り
To hang or suspend. Often found in descriptions of shibari ties as a suffix to indicate suspension. When 吊り follows another word it is pronounced as Zuri.

Tsuikamaki 柄巻き
'hilt wrapping' This refers to the traditional Japanese art of wrapping the handle of a sword such as a katana with a cord or leather. Within Shibari the term is applied to wrapping a rope around a wrap either for decoration or to use up leftover rope. In English this is called a sword hilt wrap.
