The method is said to have been devised by a town magistrate named Hikozaka Kyūbei in the city of Sunpu (modern-day Shizuoka) in the early 17th century. The suspect's hands and feet were bound behind their back, and they were suspended from the ceiling. To increase the pressure and pain, heavy stones were placed on the person's back, causing them to spin or rotate. This spinning motion was intended to induce physical pain and disorientation, pushing the victim to confess or provide information.
