O is for
Oniroku Dan 団 鬼六
1931-2011. Celebrated writer of popular SM novels in Japan (of which he wrote over 200) many of which feature shibari. His book Flower and Snake which was first serialised in the Kiten Club magazine was made into a film that was realised in 1974.
Osada Eikichi 長田英吉
1925-2001 Influential and highly respected rigger considered by some as one of the grandmasters of shibari.
Osada Steve 長田スティーブ
Highly respected rigger originally from Germany but residing in Japan since 1979. Deshi of Eikichi Osada, and also studied under Kanna, Haruki Yukimura, and more recently Ren Yagami. Osada Steve's style has continued to evolve and incorporate elements from other riggers. As a German, English, and Japanese speaking rigger was in a unique position to bring Shibari to a wide audience outside Japan and did so with tours from 2006 onwards. Continues to teach internationally and has licenced a number of instructors to teach in his style.
Overhand knot
Used in Shibari to secure a new rope onto a rope pattern, and sometimes used in the place of a no-dome. In Japanese this knot is called tome musubi (止め結び)
