Wabi Sabi 侘寂
A Japanese aesthetic concept that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity. Rooted in Zen Buddhism, wabi-sabi embraces the natural cycle of growth and decay, celebrating the authenticity of life and the transient nature of all things. The concept of Wabi Sabi is an influence on a number of riggers approach to shibari.

Wakizarashi: 脇晒し
translates literally to "exposing the armpit" in Japanese. Within Japanese culture the displaying of armpits can be seen as taboo, and so ties which results in the armpits being exposed can give a sense of vulnerability, embarrassment, and shame.

Waranawa 藁縄
'straw rope' used for tying and bundling agricultural products like rice or hay, for itual and decorative purposes in Shinto practices (e.g., shimenawa ropes used in shrines) and for traditional crafts and packaging.

Weaving
Weaving refers to bringing ropes repeatidly under and over each other without adding frictions or knots. Generally this is consider to be a 'fussion' or 'western' bondage style, and is not one found within Shibari, however some riggers embrace rope patterns that include weaving.

Working end
The section of the rope that has not yet been incorporated into a pattern, starting at the last knot tied and continuing to the rope end.

Wrap
A wrap or band is rope which has gone all the way around a body part once. If this is with a folded rope - then it will still only be called one wrap despite having two lengths of rope sitting together.
