Used in Shibari as the first part of some single column knots.
Most people will be familiar with this knot, although most people won't be used to tying it with a folded rope - it is the same knot that is used at the start of tying shoe laces.
The half-knot is the basis for the Reef Knot the Granny knot .

Tutorial
1. Wrap around the column you are tying to with a couple of fingers under the wrap.
2. Take the bight over the wraps.
3. Holding onto the bight with your fingers pull your fingers out from under the wrap and pull the other end of the rope in the opposite direction.
4. Your half knot is complete.
