No-dome

Name:

No-Dome, Nodome, Crossing hitch. (sometimes misidentified as a munter hitch)

Prounouced: 'no-doe-may'

Type:

Friction

Used

This is a widely used friction in shibari that can be used to change the direction a rope is travelling in, and one where mistakes are often made with people tying this friction ‘open’ instead of closed. It is one well worth studying! The first picture shows a nodome facing in its normal direction, the second picture shows it tied so that the normal underside of the knot is facing forwards. Some people refer to the second version as a reverse or upside down nodome, it is however the same friction.
