Mermaid tie
Ties in which both legs are tied together straght. Refered to in Japanise as Ryōashi Gattai Ichimonji Shibari 両足合体一文字縛り (both legs bound together straight)

Miura Takum 神浦匠
1960s-2021 The co-founder (with Akechi Denki) of the first Rope Dojo in 1996, with Akechi Denki as the president and and Mirua Takumi as head instructor. Despite developing his own distinctive style of tying reconstructing and adapting many ties from hojojutsu he is not well known outside of Japan as he did not travel outside of Japan to teach fearing that he could not adequately communicate safety concerns to non Japanese speakers.. His tying style can be seen in the videos series Treasury of Bondage Skills and Forms (Bakuyujai)


Mudanawa 無駄縄
'useless/wasted rope' This can be used to either refer to rope that is left over at the end of a tie that hasn't been incorporated into a pattern, or the inefficient use of rope to bind someone resulting in rope being used without function.

Munenawa 胸縄
'Chest tie' Generally used to refer to ties which do not go over the arms.

Muneshita 胸下
'under the chest' This is normally used to refer to a wrap/band that sits under the chest.

Muneue 胸上
'above the chest' This is normally used to refer to a wrap/band that sits above the chest.

Musubi 結び
'knot'

Muganawa 無我縄
'selfless' or 'egoless' rope. This describes an approach to shibari where instead of scenes being performative they are about being in the moment with the person who is tying not focusing on their own desires cravings or lust, but instead focusing on the needs of the person they are tying.

Munter Hitch
A knot used for securing a line to a hard point, often a name mistakenly used by English speaking riggers for the cross hitch / nodome.
