Fisherman's Harness
A tie originally created by Rodolphe and Mathilde now widely copied and adapted with the name being used for its adapted forms as well as the origonal.
Floor work
'floor work' Shibari performed on the ground often sitting as opposed to suspension.
Folded rope
Shibari uses a folded rope, where tying starts at the bight (middle) of the rope.
Friction
A type of knot that only holds in place when tension is being applied to both ends of the rope.
Furoshiki 風呂敷
A cloth used for wrapping items, initially used to bundle up bathers clothes at public baths but now used as gift wrapping, and to transport boxed lunches. Some riggers use a furoshiki to store and transport their rope.
Fundoshi (褌)
A long rectangle of cloth traditional used as male underwear. Underwear was not traditionally worn with kimono's, however in the 1950s it became an item that was worn by some women in Japanese films/photos to reduce the chance of censors banning the images. This led to the garment becoming a fetish item in and of itself.
Futomomo 太腿
lit. thigh. This word is used in Japanese to refer to thighs in general, and can be used to refer to a chicken thigh. Sometimes used by western riggers as an abbreviation of futomomo shibari.
Futomomo Shibari 太腿縛り
lit. thigh binding. This refers to ties in which the leg is bent at the knee, and tied to the thigh.
Fusion Bondage
Sometimes called Western Bondage, this term is often applied to bondage involving decorative knots and patterns that are not normally part of the Shibari canon.
